The Ministry of Transport issued a statement regarding what was published on some news sites and social media under the title “The Minister of Transport directs the termination of railway appointments and contracts from March 10, 2019”.
The Ministry of Transport stated in a statement that what was published by some websites stated the following:
1- The President of the Republic, the Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Finance and the Central Agency for Organization and Administration have approved the appointment of 550 engineers, 750 technologists, and 2500 technicians, who are selected and tested (psychological, medical, fitness, body detection…) by the Armed Forces Training Authority, training and qualification Engineers at the Military College and technicians at the Teachers’ Non-Commissioned Officers Institute and the Military Technological College in order to inject new generations into the railway facility that keep pace with the latest international technology systems in the field of railways, in implementation of the appointment controls in the Egyptian state, which are implemented by the Ministry of Transport with accuracy and transparency.
2- Reviewing the position of workers and employees in the Railway Authority, whose total number reaches 42 thousand workers who were appointed by legal means in the administrative apparatus of the state, and the position of workers and employees in companies affiliated with the Railway Authority, whose total number reaches 25,700 workers and employees, which are very large numbers, so it was necessary to review these The numbers that incur huge burdens on the state budget, estimated at 4.2 billion pounds in salaries for employees and workers of the Railway Authority annually, and estimated at 2 billion pounds for employees and workers of companies affiliated with the Railways Authority.
3- The various committees of the Ministry of Transport note that contracts are made by means of nepotism and favoritism in some companies affiliated with the Railways Authority despite the issuance of instructions from the Ministry to prevent this completely and not to implement any contracts in the railways or its subsidiaries without legal and transparent procedures.
4. It is worth noting that all of them are not appointments, but contracts made through nepotism and favoritism without the knowledge of the Ministry.
The Ministry of Transport stated that as soon as these contracts were monitored by the committees formed by the ministry during the review work, the ministry directed the following:
A – Reviewing all these contracts made through nepotism and favoritism.
b- Continuing the contracts needed by railway companies in those companies.
C- Redundant contracts, and despite their contracting with favoritism and favoritism, they will be re-housed in the new companies being formed to manage and operate modern transport facilities, such as the French company RATP in charge of managing and operating the third line of the metro and the light rail LRT and the Egyptian-French TMT company in charge of managing and operating station 55-62 Alexandria port and the Chinese company AFIC
