After Black Fungus, Indian Bengaluru is Preparing for the Wave of White Fungal Infection

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, BENGALURUHealth services in the city Bengaluru, India, is currently preparing to face a new wave of fungal infections after the tsunami of the corona virus (Covid-19) case in the country.

After some time ago, a black fungus infection or called ‘Mucormycosis’ emerged, this time the South Asian country must be ready to see the emergence of ‘white fungus’ or what is called Candidiasis.

Quoted from the Deccan Herald page, Sunday (23/5/2021), according to a case report that occurred in the city of Patna, Bihar state, cases of white yeast infection increased last Friday.

The doctors at Bengaluru also noted that several cases of white fungus linked to Covid-19 have been found in the city.

They added that white yeast infection same as Mucormycosis, because it can cause tissue necrosis that appears black.

Manipal Hospital Interventional Pulmonologist Dr Sachin D said white fungus was a condition that had previously been ‘recognized’ in the medical field.

“Long before Covid-19, we used to have several cases of people suffering from ‘white fungus’ which caused white patches, but the infection was localized only in the oral cavity or genital area (intimate organs). We have never seen candidiasis in such a spread, such as we’re experiencing right now, “said Dr. Sachin.

The spread of this infection, he said, includes attacking all organs and skin.

“The effect on the lungs is worrisome because it is known to cause pus,” stressed Dr Sachin.
