After bankruptcy of the Flemish Energy Supplier: what steps should you take? And what about your advance?

It sounds alarming when an energy supplier has to put it down, but that doesn’t mean the lights can go out or the heating fails.

The law stipulates that grid operator Fluvius will take over the 70,000 customers of the Flemish Energy Supplier for a period of 60 days. They will also be notified.

You will therefore have to look for a new, commercial supplier within that time. It is in your interest to do this as quickly as possible. “Because the rates at Fluvius are extremely high,” warns Eric Houtman, federal ombudsman for Energy. “There are two reasons for this. Firstly, Fluvius now suddenly has to buy volumes at very high prices on the market. Secondly, Fluvius is only an emergency supplier and it is not the intention that victims remain with them.”
