After a hard fight, Iga Świątek will advance to the WTA quarterfinals in Madrid

Iga Świątek in the 1/8 finals of the WTA in Madrid defeated the tournament “sixteen” Russian Jaketerina Aleksandrowa 6:4, 6:7(3), 6:3. In the next round, the Polish number one in the world will face the Croatian Petra Martić.

The first set of the match Świątek – Aleksandrowa

Rywalka Świątek started the meeting almost flawlessly. The Polish player did not show a high level at the start and often did not keep up with the balls of 28-year-old Aleksandrowa. First of all, the lost serve was bothering, and this is very rare for Biało-Czerwona.

It was only in the third game that the Raszynian player slowly began to wake up and catch the wind in her sails. The longer the first set lasted, the more often the Russian made mistakes, while Iga looked better and better. Aleksandrowa could not stand the stress and started making simple mistakes, while the Pole cold-bloodedly used every inaccuracy.

Jekaterina from the 3rd game had a problem with Raszynianka’s backhands, thanks to which Iga made up for the loss from 1:3. In addition, the Russian could not cope with the strong return of Biało-Czerwona. In the end, our tennis player, despite two double faults, won the first set.

The second set of the game Świątek – Aleksandrowa

From the start of the second edition, Iga entered her turnover. She also recorded her first ace. In the first three games Aleksandrova committed as many as three double faults. In addition, her game was getting more and more risky and she often gave away free points. Świątek continued to score with her excellent backhand and was leading 4-1 after five games. In the second set, Iga’s very good serves were shown, played on the body of the Russian.

With nothing left to lose, desperate Yekaterina managed to make up for the draw, 5:5. The fate of the second set was decided by a tie-break, in which the Chelyabinian player recorded as many as 3 aces, eventually winning the overtime 7-4.

The third set of the game Świątek – Aleksandrowa

The first gem belonged to the Russian. Within a dozen or so minutes, Jeketerina scored 6 aces, while the game of Świątek was dominated by huge stress. The game of the best tennis player in the world was jerky and uneven. Fortunately, in the third set, Iga quickly managed to lead 3: 1.

From the fourth game, Iga again took control of the match and did not let her rival return until the end of the competition. Eventually, the 21-year-old Polish woman won the third set 6:3 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA in Madrid.
