African Amphibian Whale Fossil Found in Egypt in Intact

As reported by Reuters, that the fossil in question is a species of ancient creature known as Protocetidae.

Meanwhile, according to researchers in Egypt, the whale species became extinct in the middle of the transition from land creatures to sea creatures.

Fossil it is found in the Eocene region of the Fayum Lowlands in the Western Desert of Egypt.

They named the fossil Phiomicetus anubis and it was three meters long and weighed about 600 kilograms.

“This ancient animal can also be categorized as a predator at the top of the food chain at that time.

“From the results of research on fossilized skull fragments, this ancient animal is a type of primitive whale in Africa.

Phiomicetus anubis is key to the discovery of new whale species and important research for African and Egyptian paleontology,” said Abdullah Gohar, researcher at the Center for Vertebrate Paleontology at Mansoura University.
