Dear Carlo, it is always nice to see that there are enthusiasts like you who read our comparatives carefully and critically. No prejudice has ever conditioned our article, and the fact that after 105 years we are still here writing about motorcycles should be the best guarantee of seriousness for all our readers. In the comparative “GS against Africa”Our Marco Marini, author of the piece and backbone of the Test Team for almost twenty years, was joined by other very experienced testers from different backgrounds, from track to enduro. We would never have written that Africa has a more strenuous standing driving position due to the too advanced footboards if it had not been shared opinion. And, forgive us, to refute this judgment only because “you can see it clearly from the photos” … is a bit reductive. The Africa Twin 1100 is a splendid bike and also goes very well off-road, otherwise the expert Marco Marini would not have elected it as his favorite. This is a fact, the other fact is that with rearmost footboards it would be even better.
