A Red alert all over France now: the epidemic of gastroenteritis wreaks havoc now also in Yonne. And even if you know the symptoms – diarrhea, vomiting – and prevention advice, it is always worth remembering them. For that, France Bleu Auxerre called in a specialist, head of the “hygiene” department at Auxerre hospital.
Rule number one: wash your hands
We know it, but we don’t always do it. It is however the basic rule, “especially wash your hands well with soap and water” recalls Agnès Joannis, hygienist nurse manager at Auxerre hospital. And it’s the same for everyone! If you are sick but also if you are not, Prevention, “if you take public transport or go shopping, you don’t know who hit your shopping cart before” explains Agnes Joannis. Washing, this is the first step. The second is disinfect with an antibacterial gel. But do not use this product alone.
Even during vows, don’t kiss anyone!
Second rule to follow: no hiring even in this vow period. We don’t kiss, we don’t shake hands, and especially not the most fragile people, that is to say the elderly, children and infants.

Besides, if you don’t feel well, “stay home” asks Agnes Joannis. “You don’t feel guilty, you don’t go to work and you don’t infect your colleagues.”
Gastroenteritis can last two to five days, But the patient remains contagious for several days after. These precautionary measures are therefore followed, even after the apparent healing.
