Adobe Lightroom: Photo software accidentally deletes user photos

For some users of the Lightroom photo editing app, this week has not been a good week. On Tuesday, software manufacturer Adobe released an update to the app for Apple’s iPhones and iPads. As is the case with updates, it should improve the software and fix a few bugs that were discovered. Among other things, there were now versions in Polish and Vietnamese.

But instead of enthusiasm made himself in Adobes Lightroom-Mobile-Forum quickly widespread enthusiasm. Several users complained that after installing the updated version, photos could no longer be found. Some reported that so-called specifications had also disappeared with them, i.e. photo filters that automatically generate certain looks or processing steps. Some of them are free, some have to be paid for.

On Reddit complained a hobby photographerthat he lost access to the results of more than two years of work with the image editing app as a result of the update, and all of his photos and specifications have disappeared. After talking to Adobe customer service for more than four hours over the past two days about the problem, he was finally told that there was no solution. His photos are irretrievably lost.

With pretty much exactly this statement, Adobe manager Rikki Flohr contacted the Lightroom Mobile forum. One is aware of the problem that some users who have not saved their images in the Adobe cloud would miss photos and specifications. Adobe has now released another update with which the strange photo shrinkage no longer occurs.

Images and specifications that have already disappeared would not be restored. We also apologize to the affected customers. The same opinion came out a little later on the Adobe website released.

The problem is likely to primarily affect users who use the free Lightroom version, because it has no connection to Adobe’s cloud storage that could be used to back up your data. On the other hand, anyone who has invested 4.99 euros per month for a Lightroom subscription is on the safe side, according to Adobe.

The same seems to be true for casual users. In any case, the author of this message does not have to complain about any loss of photos, even as a non-paying user, but also opened the app on this Friday for the first time this week – and the update of the update was already installed.
