For 29.3 percent of all members of the statutory health insurance funds, the additional contribution will increase in 2022. This corresponds to a number of 16.6 million members, as the specialist portal Krankenkassen.net currently calculated.

A total of 19 of the 96 health insurance funds examined raised the additional contributions in January, with the increase between 0.01 and 0.90 percent. By contrast, eleven GKVs with around 590,000 members reduced their additional contribution (up to a maximum of -0.50 percent).
Weighted additional contribution now at 1.36 percent
The average additional contribution in 2022 is 1.27 percent and thus significantly higher than at the beginning of 2021 (1.22 percent). Weighted according to the number of members of the health insurance funds, the additional contribution climbs to 1.36 percent.
Noteworthy is the almost consistently increasing additional contribution from the general local health insurance funds (AOK). Nine of the eleven AOKs increased their additional contribution. The most expensive contributions are now for the more than 3.6 million members of AOK Nordost and AOK NordWest with 1.70 percent each.
In general, the most expensive health insurance company in terms of the additional contribution is the BKK24 with 2.50 percent, which has just over 100,000 members. BKK Augsburg (2.40 percent) and BKK Rieker.RICOSTA.Weisser (2.20 percent) are also above the 2.00 percent limit.
The cheapest health insurance is the BMW BKK with an additional contribution of 0.30 percent.
Consolidation continues
Five health insurances merged with other GKVs at the beginning of 2022: BKK Grillo Werke, Wieland BKK, SIEMAG BKK, BKK RWE and BKK HMR. This affects around 86,000 members of the individual company health insurance funds.
