ADAC expects a quiet New Year’s Eve weekend

December 28, 2021 – Stefan Angele

Due to the corona restrictions, the ADAC expects quiet traffic on the highways around the turn of the year and in the first week of January. Unlike in the years before the pandemic, fewer people are likely to be in the winter sports areas, the car club announced on Monday (December 27th) in Munich. The ADAC assumes that many people will spend the New Year at home.

Many trips fall flat

Excursions to the local recreation areas, visits to relatives and trips to neighboring countries – apart from individual hotspots – are basically possible, according to the ADAC. However, the federal and state governments advised against this. A number of neighboring countries have also tightened their entry requirements. Because the holidays in the federal states end on different dates, the ADAC does not expect major traffic jams, because the traffic will be straightened out.

More time when traveling abroad

When driving abroad, travelers should plan a little more time on the highways to the winter sports resorts, especially on the Tauern Autobahn and the Brenner and Gotthard routes. At all German external borders, vacationers would have to expect waiting times due to increased controls both when leaving and entering Germany.

The best traffic for the north

Whatever else is going on on the streets and rails you can always hear at full and half on Radio Hamburg Verkehr. So make sure to check it out when you’re out and about. The easiest way to do this in the car is via DAB + or via the FM frequency 103.6. Alternatively, it’s easiest to use the Radio Hamburg app!
