Acute beds are declining rapidly, hospitals are preparing for an onslaught

The minister did not specify what it should be. University hospitals have begun to reduce care in recent days.

“These measures are already quite painful, because we have to practically double it beyond the originally declared capacity. The reason for this is obvious. We are approaching a phase where our normal capacity may be endangered as hospitalized patients continue to grow. We agreed with the director that they will at this time limit the elective care, ie the care that is planned, and prepare to release this capacity to the onslaught of positive covid patients, “the minister said.

According to a non-public forecast of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics (ÚZIS) available to Hospodářské noviny, Aktuálně.cz and Deník N, the capacity of hospitals will be exhausted at the end of October, even with the most optimistic development of the coronavirus epidemic.

The scenario shows that in the second half of the month, there will be an average of almost 7,000 people infected per day and almost 1,000 deaths in October. On the contrary, the most crisis variant counts on 22,000 infected per day and 1,755 deaths.

According to available data, about four percent of those infected end up in hospitals. Almost a percentage of those who have a covid are then in a very serious condition.

In his speech on Tuesday, Prymula said that the situation in the Czech Republic is deteriorating sharply, the increase in the number of patients is one of the highest in the world and the models show that in the coming weeks there will be more hospitalized and almost certainly deaths.
