Sarah Chronis (37) and Kay Greidanus (32) are the proud parents of two children, son Novi (2) and daughter Nimué (almost 1 year old). Some points of new parenthood were very disappointing for the actress, she says in an interview with ‘Kek Mama’.
“I wondered why no one warned me how intense it would be”
“After Novi was born, I remember very clearly wondering why no one had warned me how intense it would all be,” says Sarah. “Certainly physically: I felt like I had been run over by fifteen buses, with all those stitches and no sleep. And everyone kept chatting about that pink cloud – and yes, that cloud was pink, but sometimes it was really gray.”
Kay considers herself an ‘absent-minded professor’ compared to ‘powerhouse mother’ Sarah. “The distribution is really unfair: what you as a woman face during childbirth and not being yourself for so long, but purely in the service of your child,” says the actor. “And we men who enjoy the most beautiful gift imaginable just as much, but without all those nasty inconveniences.”
Still, he wants his sweetheart, with whom he went to drama school and in the series New neighbours played, say: “On the one hand, a powerhouse in the house is very nice, on the other hand: sometimes you can also let go a little and let go a little more.”
Sarah, in turn, indicates that she was ‘very annoyed with Kay’ in the first week after birth. “Waking up every two hours to breastfeed, and then seeing you sleeping next to me, that really made me antsy. So unfair!”
She goes on to say that she sees herself and Kay as “a bit like two mothers.” “Because we do everything together when it comes to the children, there is no clear difference between father or mother in that regard. I wasn’t worried about that beforehand, but I still admire you for how you fully embrace fatherhood. (…) The way in which you effortlessly take all the time for Novi and Nimué touched me.”
