Actor Ryan Reynolds and actress Scarlett Johansson will never be in the MCU together

Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson are two of the biggest superstars in the world right now.

While it was already on the rise due to the talents of both actors, its popularity skyrocketed when both received their respective roles in the lucrative field of superhero film adaptations.

Johansson, as we know, made her mark on the Marvel brand when she began appearing as Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

However, it took Reynolds a little longer to regain his stride. He was able to appear as the character of his dreams, Deadpool, in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”

But much to the chagrin of fans (including Reynolds), the Deadpool we see in “X-Men” is far from quirky leather. -clothes Wade Wilson from the comics.

To make matters worse, that performance was followed by DC’s failed “Green Lantern,” where Reynolds played the title role.

Fortunately, Fox took a chance in 2016 and recruited Reynolds to play “Deadpool” in a bigger and better capacity.

Through these films, both Reynolds and Johansson became comic book legends. However, even though it is now owned by the same company, we will never see them together in the MCU.

This is for a multitude of reasons, one of which is the storied past of the two together, as well as the legal bureaucracy that kept their franchises separate.

Johansson and Reynolds were actually married once but divorced

The main personal reason you’ll never see Reynolds and Johansson together in the MCU is that the two were married once, but have since divorced.

From 2008 to 2010, Reynolds and Johansson lived as a married couple, although they kept their relationship extremely private even then.

However, it seems that the two of them at least wish the best for each other. As Reynolds told E! Online, “We enter our relationship with love, and it is with love and kindness that we leave it.”

Still, it’s understandable that a duo with such a complicated history would want to avoid each other both personally and professionally.

For a time, this was not a real problem, as “Deadpool” was technically owned by Fox and remained separate from the rest of the MCU.

However, the door was opened for Deadpool to make his MCU debut after Disney bought Fox.

According to Screen Geek, Marvel insider Daniel Richtman claims that Johansson’s Black Widow is one of the few characters Reynolds doesn’t want Deadpool to be in post-merger due to their past relationship.

However, this may not be a major problem. Johansson’s character has been officially dead in the MCU timeline since “Avengers: Endgame.”

And his appearance in his first (and last) main film, “Black Widow,” takes place long before “Endgame.” So it’s more likely that the two never interacted anyway.
