The world of cinema is in mourning. Actor Burt Young, known for playing Paulie, the friend of Rocky Balboa in the successful film starring Sylvester Stallone, has died at the age of 83, as reported by The New York, which explains that the death took place on October 8, but that it was not revealed and is now confirmed by his daughter, Anne Morea. The actor from Queens participated in more than one hundred and a half films, including hits such as Once Upon a Time in America or Chinatown, however, he will always be remembered for his role as an alcoholic butcher friend of Rocky in the Stallone saga. A role for which he was nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor.
Paulie was also the brother of Adrian (Talia Shire), the shy woman who became Rocky’s girlfriend in the movie about the club boxer who scored a fight with the heavyweight champion, Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers).

The Rocky saga, for which Stallone also wrote the script, was a success, and Young boasted that he did not have to audition to play Paulie. “I was the only actor who didn’t audition for the first Rocky,” he said in an interview with The Rumpus portal in 2017. “And I got the most money for it.”
According to what he said, he and Stallone had met at the studio and he told him that he had written the script and tried in every way to convince him to play Paulie. And he was not wrong to accept the role, as the film won three of the Oscar nominations it received, including Best Picture.
