For the second year in a row, an open-door event is being held at the Mežaparks Grand Stage with the aim of showing the construction work done to Rigans and guests of the capital. The event will combine both leisure in an open atmosphere and the opportunity to get acquainted with the renovated stage and get to know the 15,000 square meter area together with the implementers of the construction plan.

Creative, musical and gastronomic activities for the whole family are planned for the picnic. On the stage of the event, young visitors will be delighted by their favorite fairy-tale characters from the “Fairytale House”. There will be a musical meeting with the ensemble of actors of the National Theater “Greizais ratiņš” and Igo. Between the artists’ performance breaks in quizzes, the knowledge of Rigans about the construction of the Grand Stage will be tested, as well as the acoustics of the new stage will be tested together. The event will be hosted by Walter Krauze.

In parallel with the stage activities, creative workshops will take place in the stages of the stage, large and small visitors will be delighted by the circus artist’s tricks, a special surprise for the guests of the Riga Festival will be provided by the illusionist Pecolli family.

Picnic guests are invited to bring a blanket or rug to sit on the spacious lawn. During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to enjoy the cuisine of different countries of the world, taste traditional Latvian dishes, as well as refresh themselves with refreshing drinks and summer cocktails. It will be forbidden to bring alcoholic beverages and glass containers into the event area.

The organizers urge visitors to follow the national restrictions and the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control in relation to the spread of Covid-19.

The event is organized by Riga Municipality in cooperation with PS “LNK, RERE” and “Art Management Group”.

The Grand Stage of Mežaparks has now acquired the form of the Silver Grove on the Hill of Songs designed by its authors, architects Juris Pogas and Austra Mailītis. The branched “tree pattern” and other metal structures are made of 1766 tons of metal. The unique construction rises to a height of 35.8 meters. 510 acoustic shields are installed on metal busbars. The new stage will feature 12,874 choirs, almost twice as many as before, as well as hosting dancers in the expanded dance floor.

The renovation of Mežaparks Grand Stage started on March 11, 2016, when Riga Municipality and the Latvian National Cultural Center signed an agreement with the architectural offices of Juris Poga and Austra Mailītis on the development of a construction project.
