Accusations of Neglect in Kayamkulam Budget Allocation: Impact on Development and Coastal Protection

Kayamkulam – KPCC Secretary E. Sameer has accused the past MLA of cheating the people by being lax in allocating money in the budget for projects including reconstruction of KSRTC bus stand, construction of Kadthakadav-Munambel bridge, which is essential for comprehensive development of commercial and recreational areas of Kayamkulam, and protection of coastal areas from tidal and salt water threats. He also said that passengers’ lives are being threatened as not a single rupee has been allocated to the bus stand from the MP and MLA funds or from the state government.

UDF convener A. M. Kabir said that the construction of Mukkavala bridge, Kannisakadav bridge and Koikapady bridge is only in the announcement. The Kadthukadav-Munampel bridge was also limited to the announcement. There is no plan included in the budget to deal with the threat of tides which the coastal residents are suffering a lot. The same indifference shown in the construction of the national highway was also alleged from the people’s representatives in these matters.
