Accuracy: The new measures come into force from tomorrow – Reductions of up to 18% on 3,000 products – 2024-03-01 03:03:28

Preparations in the supermarkets were feverish today, as from tomorrow the “Screka measures” against punctuality are applied.

Employees tasked with stocking shelves and changing price tags had a heavy workload. According to information from MEGA, the large supermarket chains have already received the invoices with the reduced prices.

The four new weapons the government is throwing at the battle against punctuality are:

  • 30% reduction in supplier discounts to supermarkets
  • Ban on offers on products that have been repriced in the last quarter
  • Net invoices from product returns and fees for fresh fruit, vegetables and meats
  • 7% ceiling on the gross profit of infant milk

For baby milk products, the Ministry of Development estimates that the initial prices decreased by an average of about 15%.

The question is whether it will really benefit the consumer, who from tomorrow will see a reduction in the nominal price of the products, but there is a risk that the discounts and offers will be drastically limited, with the result that the difference in practice will be minimal.

Price reduction on 108 labels starting tomorrow

According to the data of the Ministry of Development, the average price reduction in baby and children’s diapers is 18.1%, in shampoos, shower gels and conditioners 17%, in toothpastes 15.1%, in laundry detergents 15.6%, in dish detergents 16%, all kinds of cleaners 15.8% and soaps 12.7%.

“The results of these interventions will be seen gradually, as this is a deep, structural intervention in the way the market operates. However, the first messages are encouraging and we expect the initial prices – I emphasize this – for more than 1500 products to be reduced from the beginning of March”, said Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“Kyriakos Mitsotakis is unable to meet the needs of society. The only ones who are definitely satisfied are those who are profiting off the backs of households that bend under the weight of accuracy,” said SYRIZA MP, Christos Giannoulis.

“Someone is obviously playing tricks on us. Let the government take a look at food inflation, which in our country increased by 8.3% in the period January 2023-January 2024, while in the EU it rose by only 4.8%”, was the answer of Giorgos Nikitiadis, Member of Parliament of PaSoK.

The precision, however, in food and basic necessities persists, while consumers remain skeptical about the effectiveness of the new measures.
