President Trump’s Middle East plan is rejected by the Palestinians. After the Washington initiative, President Abbas even wants to completely break off relations with the United States and Israel.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has announced the “breakdown of all ties” with Israel and the United States. Abbas announced this in Cairo before an Arab League emergency meeting on US President Donald Trump’s controversial Middle East plan.
Abbas said that the Palestinian Authority would end “all relations” in the security area with Israel and the United States. The United States’ Middle East plan is a “violation of the Oslo Accords” that was signed with Israel in the 1990s. Israel, as the “occupying power” of the Palestinian Territories, would have to take responsibility.
Trump had presented a plan to settle the Middle East conflict earlier this week. In his Middle East plan, he says he plans a two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians. Jerusalem is said to be the “undivided capital” of Israel. At the same time, he promised the Palestinians a capital in an East Jerusalem suburb and a doubling of their territory for a future state of their own. To this end, the Palestinians should give up their weapons and accept Israel’s responsibility for security in the West Bank.
Shortly after Trump’s announcement, Abbas had sharply criticized the Middle East plan. This will “land in the trash can of history,” he said on Palestinian television.
