A man was wounded early in the morning on Sunday, when he was hit by a stone plaque that broke free from the Figueira da Foz Arts and Entertainment Center.
The incident happened at the end of The Gift’s concert, after midnight and a half, outside the auditorium, where about a hundred spectators waited for an autograph session by the Alcobaça band, the Lusa agency said.
The victim was standing on the first floor balcony, next to a column of the building’s structure, from which three square plates of the stone covering were released, one of which hit the man in the head. Another part of the lining that came loose reached the balcony before crashing down on the ground floor of the building, about 10 meters below, without causing more victims.
The man, who had a visible head injury with abundant blood loss and who never lost consciousness, was immediately removed from the spine and helped by others who were in the area.
The victim was assisted by the Figueira da Foz Volunteer Firefighters and a doctor and a nurse from the INEM Emergency Medical and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER). The rescue operations lasted for almost an hour, with the victim being immobilized using a cervical collar and the removal from the Arts and Entertainment Center, from where she was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The PSP was also on site, who took care of the occurrence.
The Arts and Entertainment Center, the main theater in Figueira da Foz, in the district of Coimbra, was designed under the mandate of Pedro Santana Lopes in the municipality (1998-2001), during which works began. It was concluded in the following term, the first of Duarte Silva (already deceased) and inaugurated by the then President of the republic Jorge Sampaio in June 2002, almost 18 years ago.
