Access to the HIV prevention pill PrEP is not being improved

PrEP effective and cost effective

Aidsfonds-Soa Aids Nederland has long advocated the generous availability of the HIV prevention pill PrEP. It is a proven effective, safe and even cost-effective means of preventing an HIV infection. The Netherlands is lagging behind compared to other European countries, where PrEP is available almost free of charge to anyone who finds it necessary.

Vermeulen : “Prevention and control of healthcare costs are important policy goals of this government. The provision of PrEP fits in seamlessly with this. Generous access to PrEP will prevent disease, prevent lifelong healthcare costs and advance the goal of zero new HIV infections. ”

Aidsfonds – Soa Aids Nederland will explore together with partners how access to PrEP in the Netherlands can still be expanded in the coming period, taking into account the capacity problems at the Centers for Sexual Health.
