New wealth club Newcastle United have reached an agreement to sign Lille defender Sven Botman for £39 million.
Botman has been on Newcastle’s radar since the Magpies wanted to sign the 22-year-old in the January transfer window.

Botman joined Lille from Ajax for €9 million in the summer of 2020. He immediately became a pillar of the team when destroying PSG’s hegemony to win the Ligue 1 title the season he arrived.
Last season, Lille finished in tenth. Botman made 32 appearances across competitions for the club, scoring three goals. Interestingly, the 195 cm defender is predicted to be Jaap Stam’s successor.
At the national team level, Botman hasn’t bagged one yet caps in the Dutch national team, but he is the main defender in the Oranje U-21 squad.
