Absenteeism affected the vaccination process in the centers that attended this weekend | Community | Guayaquil

They should be vaccinated over 65 years and over 50 who suffer a catastrophic disease.

The vaccination centers that they attended this Sunday in Guayaquil were empty. Absenteeism was a common denominator and the doctors who had been there since 08:00 commented that very few citizens had attended during the first hours.

This Sunday it was planned to immunize the stragglers who during the week could not go to inoculate themselves, those over 65 years old, without the need for an appointment, and those over 50 who have a catastrophic illness and those who carry a certificate.

However, until 10:00 the University of Guayaquil was almost empty. In that study center there were two vaccination points. In one of them, 500 doses of the three available brands had arrived and as of 09:45 only ten people had come to be vaccinated.

At 10:00 more began to arrive, but the managers were almost certain that not all of them were going to show up.

At the Catholic University the situation was similar. Of the 358 doses they had available, only 30 had been applied by 11:00. This vaccination point is located next to a large garage to facilitate the arrival of the elderly, however, the space was empty.

The managers notified their acquaintances that they had older adults who have not yet been vaccinated to take them to give them the injection.

At the Admiral Illingworth Naval Academy (ANAI), the space for vaccination was also empty. Although the person in charge did not indicate how many doses he had, he did say that at 11:30 there was no one getting vaccinated, and they only had to wait for them to arrive little by little.

At the Salesian University the situation was similar. At 12:30 pm there was no one in the waiting area or in the classrooms where the doses are applied. The managers took the opportunity to have lunch while the older adults arrived and explained that the vaccines come in packages, depending on the brand, and that having so few patients, they had to wait to complete a group to get the doses so that they would not spoil.

For example, Sinovac vaccines come in packs of two and you must have two people ready to give them.

Pfizer, on the other hand, comes in six by six and AstraZeneca comes in a pack of ten, so there must be ten people who have already taken their vital signs and are in a position to be vaccinated.

This benefited Sara, a 64-year-old woman who accompanied her husband to get vaccinated at the University of Guayaquil. She is ten days away from turning 65 and as they waited to complete the groups to open a package of vaccines, she was included and could be immunized as well.

Sara was relieved and commented that she had checked the website of the National Electoral Council (CNE) several times, because after the death of her sister from COVID-19 she wanted to be immunized to feel calmer and be able to share with her children. In fifteen days the couple must return for their second dose.

The vaccination points were open until 17:00. The managers of the centers agree that the absenteeism registered at the weekend is approximately 50%.

This weekend it was also attended at the Colegio Cristóbal Colón, in the south of Guayaquil; in the Durán Convention Center, in the Coliseum of the Municipality of Samborondón and in the Universidad Espíritu Santo of that canton.

To date 2.5 million Ecuadorians have been vaccinated, that is, 6% of the total population.

One week after the start of the new vaccination process, Ecuador reports 431,429 COVID-19 infections with confirmed PCR tests, according to the latest report from the Ministry of Public Health (MSP).

According to the ministry report, this June 4 there were 430,739 infected, and if this figure is compared with that of Saturday 5 (431,429), the increase has been 690 cases of coronavirus.

As for those recovered, until Saturday there were 375,151 people who managed to defeat the virus. In addition, 45,657 patients were discharged, and to these figures the 957,513 cases discarded are also added. (I)
