The Main Post editorial team started the second half of the year with a change in management. The senior editors Peter Krones (retired) and Helmut Hickel (passive phase of partial retirement) officially had their last working day on May 31. At the beginning of the year, Folker Quack withdrew from the editor-in-chief at his own request and has since been working as an author for our media group. Achim Muth and Tobias Köpplinger have been new to the editorial team since June 1st. They complete the previous management team with Michael Reinhard (editor-in-chief), Ivo Knahn (deputy editor-in-chief), Britta Buss, Andreas Kemper (both senior editors) and Regina Krömer (office management editor-in-chief).
We sometimes have to rethink journalism
Editors have faced a multitude of challenges for years. The transformation of the still popular and important information source newspaper into the digital age is at the top of the agenda. Shaping this change is one of the most exciting challenges for our company.
The Internet has long been the main source of news for many people. Most of them now consume their information on their smartphones. For editorial offices, this means that we have to partially rethink journalism and adapt it to the changed needs and habits of our readers.
That is why we at Main-Post have been working intensively for years on developing our structures and technology that are consistently geared towards digital. But above all, we are committed to improving our local and regional content. The focus is on the needs of our users. We understand this better and better thanks to the latest technical support. This means that we are less dependent on our gut instinct when it comes to content discussions and can better recognize and meet reader expectations.
The top management at a glance:
Ivo Knahn (44) has been deputy editor-in-chief since September 1, 2017. In this function, he is primarily responsible for the digital development of the editorial team. The father of four also controls and is responsible for the editorial processes and procedures. Ivo Knahn comes from Marktheidenfeld and volunteered at Main-Post. His first stop as an editor was the local editorial office in Lohr. Subsequently, he helped to set up and editorially managed the weekly newspaper “Boulevard Würzburg” and the magazine “nine7”. The “nine7” concept was recognized in 2008 with the Adenauer Prize for Local Journalism. He then brought the experience from the magazine area to bear in order to build up and manage the design concept of the daily newspaper and the “Optics” department. More than 20 awards at the “European Newspaper Award” prove his extremely successful work in this area.
Britta Buss (47) has been responsible for the development of the Custom Content division since August 1, 2019. In this unit, all types of content are created that business customers can order from MainKonzept, the media group’s content agency. Her area of responsibility also includes the publications “markt” and the numerous supplements to this newspaper. After completing her traineeship at Main-Post, the native of Hessin went through various editorial areas: she was the editor of the weekly magazine “nine”, responsible for the Franconia pages for several years, was the deputy head of the Würzburg editorial team and later switched to subject management. At the same time, she was involved in the digital development of the editorial team as part of various sub-projects.
Andreas Kemper (57) has been responsible for various tasks in his two decades in the editor-in-chief, including the establishment of a news desk for the Main-Rhön region in Schweinfurt. The former Würzburg local editor is currently responsible for the central page production on the Heuchelhof, both for the national newspaper section and for the local sections. This also includes the art direction and the photographers. Born in Detmold, he is also responsible for the editorial service staff in the local editorial offices and at headquarters. In his function as head of the service, the further development of systems and technology is part of his area of responsibility.
Tobias Köpplinger (39) has been digital head of theme management at Main-Post in Würzburg since December 2018. Köpplinger studied political science and new media journalism, completed his traineeship at the Kitzinger Zeitung, was Würzburg correspondent for the media group Upper Franconia and head of multimedia at the North Bavarian Courier in Bayreuth. He is an expert in digital storytelling, digital change and transformation processes. Tobias Köpplinger grew up in Ebenhausen in the Bad Kissingen district. Before he became Head of Theme Management at Main-Post, he was digital director and member of the editorial team at the Frankfurter Neue Presse in Frankfurt.
Achim Muth (52) is head of the topic management together with Köpplinger. The central task there is the control of all editorial content for online and newspaper. Muth is a child of the Main Post: After completing his traineeship, he initially worked as an editor in the local editorial office in Würzburg-Land. Muth was then a member of the sports editorial team for over 15 years, from 2004 also deputy department head. For years, Erlabrunner, as a representative of the German regional newspapers, was a member of the “National Team Working Group”, which was intended to promote the exchange between the DFB and sports journalists. Between 2009 and 2017, Muth headed the newly founded regional editorial office as reporter chief.
Regina Krömer (56) took over the newly created position as “journalistic office manager of the editor-in-chief” eight years ago. Your area of responsibility ranges from the responsible management of the CR office to the organizational and operational support of the editor-in-chief in various projects to the content management of the intranet of the media group Main-Post. Born in Hückeswagen, she is not one of the house’s own plants, but came to Paris from Würzburg “Journaliste en Europe”. Before moving to the headquarters in Würzburg, she was editor-in-chief for the Tauber edition of the Main-Post, deputy editor-in-chief in the Würzburg City Department and deputy editor-in-chief in Kitzingen.
The author (61) has been editor-in-chief of the Main-Post media group since 2001. Before that, the native of Bad Orber – after a traineeship at the Gelnhausen Tageblatt and studying journalism in Berlin – worked in a leading position at the Berliner Morgenpost, the Frankfurter Rundschau, the Tagesspiegel and the Gießener Anzeiger.
