About 600 healthcare workers have died of covid-19 in the US, according to a count; Cases Increase in Various States | Univision Salud News

This Thursday, the United States reached 1,872,261 infections and 108,120 deaths from coronavirus, according to the Johns Hopkins University count, EFE reported.

The country registered 22,409 infections and 1,021 deaths in a single day.

New York State continues as the epicenter of the pandemic with 375,133 confirmed cases and 30,090 deaths. In New York City alone, 21,752 people have died.

New York is followed by: New Jersey with 162,530 confirmed cases and 11,970 deaths, Massachusetts with 102,063 infections and 7,201 deaths, and Pennsylvania, which has reported 78,335 positives and 5,832 deaths.

So far, the death toll has surpassed the lowest White House forecast that projected 100,000 to 240,000 deaths from the pandemic.

President Donald Trump first was confident that the final figure would be between 50,000 and 60,000 dead, although in his latest calculations it stood at 110,000 dead.

For its part, the Institute of Health Metrics and Assessments (IHME) of the University of Washington, has calculated that by the beginning of August there will be more than 135,000 deaths in the United States.
