With the show “ABBA Voyage”, the Swedish pop group ABBA will be on stage in London almost every day from May 2022 – or, better said, their lifelike images. The band members Agnetha Fältskog, Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson will be seen as hologram avatars, so-called “Abbatars”. They are accompanied by live musicians. It will be the Swedes’ first concerts after a 40-year break from the band, albeit virtual. Ticket sales already started in September.
Following the shows in London, a concert residency is reportedly planned in Las Vegas. The three hotels MGM Resorts, Caesars Palace and Resorts World have already expressed their interest in it. Negotiations are currently underway between the hotels mentioned and the ABBA concert organizers. The Swedes are said to be hoping for proceeds of around one billion British pounds. A possible start of the Vegas show could be in 2024. Exactly fifty years after ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with their hit “Waterloo”.
The chance to see ABBA live again in flesh and blood is very slim, however. In an interview with the Guardian, Andersson recalls one of the band’s last TV appearances in 1982: “I never said (at that time) that ABBA would never happen again. But I can tell you now: That was it ”.
