AAA recommends starting planning Thanksgiving trips – NBC New York (47)

NEW YORK – Thanksgiving is just over six weeks away, and AAA recommends that you start planning your vacation trip due to the expected high travel demand.

The company says most are already booking their vacation trips for that season. Expectations are high this year will see a lot of holiday travel, making planning so far a boon for those looking to fly, rent cars, and stay in hotels.

“Time to book. It’s yesterday, it’s today, it’s tomorrow, it’s soon, “said Anne Lischwe, travel sales manager at AAA Northeast, about when to book air travel.

AAA tips include:

  1. Be flexible if possible when booking Thanksgiving trips – adding a day to either end of the trip can mean a lower fare.
  2. Most people travel home for Thanksgiving, but an international vacation trip can lead to good deals.
  3. Purchase travel insurance when you book your trip.
  4. Please arrive at the airport at least 2-3 hours before the scheduled time for a domestic flight and 3-4 hours for an international flight.

Who goes where? Here are the top ten Thanksgiving destinations AAA travel consultants are looking for for Northeast travelers: Orlando, Boston, Las Vegas, Ft. Lauderdale, Nashville, Maui, Tampa, Los Angeles, Miami, and Washington, DC.

There may be savings opportunities for people willing to wait until the holidays are approaching to book. The risk is that inventory is limited and preferred schedules or direct flights run out. Flight delays or other disruptions are still possible and travelers are strongly encouraged to equip themselves with information and protection to minimize or eliminate stressful situations that can adversely affect a trip.

Talking to a trusted travel advisor when planning a trip is a great way to create peace of mind and focus on all the fun aspects of a trip.
