The first female president of Slovenia.

This is because the Slovenian presidential election on the 13th (local time) was won by independent candidate Natasha Pirk-Musar (54).

According to local media, the Slovenian National Election Commission counted 99.99% of the votes that evening and Firk-Musar received 53.86% of the votes, defeating former foreign minister Anje Rogar (46) of the Democratic Party Slovenian and confirming the election.

Previously, in the first round of the Slovenian presidential election on the 23rd of last month, among the seven candidates, Rogar had advanced to the final with 34% and Firk-Musar with 26.9%. However, he was overturned in the final vote.

In a televised address, President-elect Firk-Musar said: “The people have expressed their will about the kind of Slovenia they want” and “we will defend basic human rights and democracy”.

Candidate Rogar, who was confirmed to have lost the election, acknowledged this and congratulated the elected Pirk-Musar.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Firk-Musar on winning Slovenia’s first female president on Twitter, promising to strengthen cooperation with Slovenia. President-elect Firk-Musar graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana, a national university located in the capital Ljubljana, and worked as a lawyer, journalist and administrator.

He worked as a reporter for the public broadcaster “TV Slovenia” and the main news presenter for the private broadcaster “Pop TV”.

Notably, in 2016, the president-elect served as the legal representative of Melania Trump, wife of then US President Donald Trump, and was in charge of litigation against Slovenian newspapers and Slovenian and Croatian companies that stole the name and photo of Melania in the advertisements.

Slovenia, which was separated with the breakup of the former Yugoslavia in 1991, has a population of around 2 million and borders Hungary, Italy, Croatia and Austria.

The term of office of the President of Slovenia is five years and he can be re-elected only once. The inauguration day of the new president is December 22nd.
