A well-known Ukrainian tennis player fights at the front. “Russians slaughter families, rape”

Serhiy Stachowski, 36, is one of the Ukrainian sportsmen who returned to the country to defend their homeland. In an interview with the German daily “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” he says that the Russians “slaughter families, kill civilians, rape”.

Stachowski volunteered as a reservist.

We are looking for Russian agents, we prevent marauders from breaking into stores – he says. We create groups of three to five people. We have a sector we’re patrolling. Everyone has a two-hour shift, then a six-hour rest break, then you have to go out again for two hours, day or night – he adds.

As the German newspaper writes, Until January, Stachowski was a professional playerafter his career, he planned to enjoy life and be with his family. But things turned out differently. As a volunteer, he is now defending his country. His relatives are now safe in Budapest.

They are all super motivated, but also full of anger, ready to take revenge on the Russian army for its atrocities, for what they are doing to civilians. They slaughter families, kill civilians, rape – says Stachowski.

When you hear Putin say that Ukraine never existed, that it was created by the Soviet Union and by Lenin, that it never had history, it becomes clear: if Ukraine loses this war, it will be erased from all history books. It will disappear from the face of the earth as a land – says Stachowski.

He believes that the political support for Ukraine could be much greater. Ukraine must be closed. On the ground, Russian troops are unable to defeat Ukraine. Ukrainians are ready to fight! – emphasizes Stachowski.

The Ukrainian won four ATP tournaments in singles and four in doubles. In 2013, he became famous when he eliminated the famous Roger Federer in the second round of Wimbledon.
