Perhaps you have a washing machine at home that shakes when you spin it and travels along the sidewalk from wall to wall. And what’s more, it gives the impression that the whole apartment will fall on your head in the blink of an eye.
The good news is that it almost certainly won’t happen. But what about that? On the one hand, the noise is very annoying and there is also a risk that your favorite household appliance will break the tiles or the floor.
Most modern washing machines already write to you on the display when something bothers them, but if no message comes from them, you have to find out yourself.
Check the laundry in the drum
If a bouncing washer isn’t a regular part of every wash, it’s probably just that your clothes are unevenly distributed in the drum. Stop the washing machine, open the drum and check if the contents have become a large tangled ball.
If so, separate the individual garments from each other. This can happen when washing the sheets, for example. It is good practice to fasten buttons or zippers on duvet covers and pillows, because all of the washing machine’s remaining contents are stuffed into their large empty volume, and the trouble is in the world.
It also happens if the washing machine is overcrowded. It’s best to fill it only half full so that the laundry has enough room to move around when you turn the drum. If you don’t overfill your washing machine, your clothes will be cleaner too.
Level the legs of the washing machine
If your washer regularly jumps to the toilet, check that its legs are evenly adjusted. She tries to rock him from side to side in a calm state and if you succeed, she won’t stop. When she twisted, her feet repeatedly hit the floor. In that case the repair is very simple because the legs are adjustable. You can lengthen the shorter leg by screwing it in with the help of a wrench or shorten the longer one. If they can’t be handled, support the shorter one with plywood.
Did you get rid of the shipping screws?
If your new washer skips, check that you removed the shipping screws that prevent the drum from moving during shipping and installation. These are usually brightly colored pieces of plastic that, at first glance, no longer belong in the washing machine and must be removed by hand or with a wrench.
But if the legs are positioned evenly, there are no plastic screws in sight, and the laundry isn’t piled to one side in the drum, the shock absorbers could be to blame. This is already a more complicated repair, especially for an amateur, and well worth calling a repairman.
