A volcano erupted near Reykjavík in Iceland / Article

Fagradalsfjadl is located in the southwestern tip of Iceland in an uninhabited valley about 30 kilometers from Reykjavík.

Live video from the scene shows lava spewing from a 100- to 200-meter-long narrow fissure in the lava field from the previous eruption.

Scientists had predicted the eruption after a series of earthquakes over the past week that signaled increased volcanic activity.

The Fagradalsfjadl volcano erupted in March last year and for several months streams of lava flowed from it, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators. Eight months ago, the eruption was officially declared over.

However, the Icelandic Meteorological Service warns people not to approach the volcano.

There are about 30 large volcanoes in Iceland. In 2010, the eruption of the volcano near the Eyjafjadlajedla glacier caused disruptions in air traffic for several weeks.
