A Viennese jazz evening with Klaus Gessing will take place in the Dzintari / Diena concert hall

Klaus Gessing is a multi-instrumentalist, composer who looks at improvisation from different angles in his work, focusing on creating music in the present moment. Klaus Gessing graduated with honors from the Royal Conservatory of Music in The Hague, specializing in classical and jazz saxophone. He also studied with David Liebman. Joint program of both artists Music for voice and big band focuses on two characteristics of Klaus Gessing’s music: irregular and energetic rhythms and a love of poetry. The program includes several songs with lyrics by Norma Winstone. Gessing says, “Ana Pilat fills these songs with wonderful warmth. She is able to combine the necessary simplicity of performance with exquisite drama and elegantly brings both melody and lyrics to life.” Gessing also arranged a Greek folk song for a big band and created several compositions that grew out of the subtleties of chamber music, using the splendid sonic bouquet of a big band.
