A U.S. nuclear engineer has been caught transmitting data on nuclear submarines for large sums

Toby, with the help of his wife, has twice passed on classified information and received a reward in cryptocurrency worth $ 100,000

A U.S. Navy nuclear engineer with access to military secrets has been accused of trying to pass information about U.S. nuclear submarines to a man he thought was a foreign government official but an undercover FBI agent. This was announced today by the Ministry of Justice, quoted by the Associated Press.

Jonathan Toby, 42, and his wife, Diana, were arrested in West Virginia yesterday.

According to US authorities, in April 2020, Toby tried to contact an unnamed foreign country and offered to provide data on US nuclear submarines for a fee.

However, he came across an FBI agent working undercover and posing as an employee of the country in question.

Subsequently, Toby, with the help of his wife, twice passed classified information and received a reward in cryptocurrency worth $ 100,000, TASS reported, citing a press release from the Ministry of Justice.

They have been charged with conspiracy to illegally pass classified information to a foreign country. The two could be sentenced to life in prison and fined $ 100,000.
