Washington’s hockey players commemorated the fight against cancer with Hockey Fights Cancer Night before Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh in the NHL.

During the pre-match skating, the home players wore lavender jerseys and before the fight, together with their rivals from Pittsburgh in the middle circle, they honored the memory of those who fought cancer in their hockey community.
The first defender of the match was scored by the Slovak defender Martin Fehérvary, and in the spirit of this legacy he dedicated it to his mother Gabike, who succumbed to lung cancer in 2009. The future NHL hockey player was 9 at the time, his older brother was fifteen at the time and his younger sister was only 6 years old.
