The 10th edition of the “Defile Wine and Gourmet” festival, beloved by Plovdiv residents and tourists, begins
“Defile Wine and Gourmet” awaits wine and gourmet lovers in the Old Town of Plovdiv for the tenth edition of the festival. It will be held on May 10, 11 and 12. A total of 16 locations in the Old Town will be the stage for 55 participants, among them 43 wine producers and 12 food and product producers. There are 8 new participants this year. For the second year in a row, the festival will be held over 3 days – Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will be a wonderful addition to the festive Easter week.
The opening is on Friday – May 10, traditionally with a Dionysian procession, which will leave at 1 pm from Stefan Stambolov Square, accompanied by God Dionysus and the Thrace ensemble. With music and dancing, the procession will reach the heart of the Old Town. Novo will be the site of the official opening. For the first year, it will be held at 1 Dr. Stoyan Chomakov Street in front of the Tourist Information Center next to Hisar Gate in the Old Town and the Church of St. st konstantin and Elena”.
At 2 p.m., the organizers and officials will welcome participants and guests present, after which the three-day wine fiesta will begin. This became clear during today’s press conference at the “Boris Hristov” DC, which traditionally precedes each edition of the gorge. It was attended by the deputy mayor for culture, archeology and tourism of the municipality of Plovdiv – Plamen Panov, the chairman of the board of the “Tourism Council – Plovdiv” and the chairman of the board of the “Thracian tourist region” – Eng. Lyubozar Fratev and Assoc. R. Eng. Hristo Spasov – vice-rector, head of the “Wine and Beer Technology” department and chairman of the General Assembly at UHT.
“Defile Wine and Gourmet 2024” is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture. The organizers of the festival are “Tourism Council – Plovdiv” and the Municipality of Plovdiv with the active cooperation of OI “Ancient Plovdiv”, University of Food Technologies – Plovdiv. The event is financed by the Annual Tourism Development Program of the Municipality of Plovdiv for 2024.
On May 10 (Friday) the tasting day will be from 14:00 to 19:00. On May 11 (Saturday) from 11:00 to 19:00 and on May 12 (Sunday) from 11: 00:00 to 18:00
The locations where wine and gourmet products will be tasted are: “Encho Pironkov” Gallery, “Nishanyan” House /new location/, “Trakart” Residence, “Birdas” House, “Hippocrates” Pharmacy, “Georgi Bozhilov – Elephant” Exhibition, “Zlatyu Boyadjiev” Gallery, “Andromeda Art” Gallery /new location /, Ethnographic Museum, Balabanova House, “Hindliyan” House /new location/, “Georgiadi” House, “Nedkovich” House, Ivan Chernozemski’s House, “Danch House” and “Bel Ville” Hotel.
Visitors to the festivalis they can to try over 250 types of wine and dozens of gourmet flavors. Wine tasting is done with tokens BGN 0.75 each /one token is equal at one tasting/. In front of each festival location, there will be an information point where visitors will be able to purchase tokens and tasting sets – a branded glass tasting glass, a leather cup holder, a branded wine bag and a souvenir magnet made in OP “Social Enterprise for People with Disabilities” ” to the Municipality of Plovdiv. Promotional tasting sets will be available at grabo.bg until May 8.
Organizers will also continue their tradition of providing 5% of the festival’s profits in the form of scholarships to students majoring in tourism who volunteered during the Defile Wine and Gourmet Festival.
A tasting jury, headed by experts from the University of Food Technology, will hold a competition for “Most skillful combination of wine and food”. The excellent taste combinations will be announced on the Facebook page of the festival and on the spot at the participants’ stands with information plates.
Visitors, wine and gourmet lovers, will also be able to vote and support their favorites in a digital poll for “Favorite White, Red and Rosé Wine” as well as “Favorite Taste”. A QR code to the survey will be available in the printed catalog that will be distributed during the Gorge.
