On Tuesday August 2, a new case of Monkeypox was confirmed on the island. According to the ARS, the person was “exposed to the virus outside Corsica and shows no signs of seriousness”.
This Tuesday, the Regional Health Agency of Corsica informs that a new case of infection with the Monkeypox virus, more commonly known as monkey pox, has been confirmed on the island.
“This is a person who was exposed to the virus outside Corsicaindicates the ARS in a press release. This person immediately isolated himself as soon as the first symptoms appeared and took
contact with his doctor who followed the procedure in connection with the Ars de Corse. She shows no signs of seriousness. The epidemiological investigation confirmed the absence of anyone in close contact with this patient.“
Since June 26, this is the third case of monkeypox detected on the island. Like the first two, the virus was also contracted on the Continent. “To date, no chain of transmission has been demonstrated in Corsica“, specifies the ARS which indicates that 14 people have been vaccinated against the virus on the island since the beginning of July.
Previously contained in a dozen African countries, monkeypox has spread to several European countries since May.
Usually mild, the disease first manifests as high fever and rashes. Infected people are contagious as soon as the first symptoms appear. Transmission is mainly by respiratory droplets and by direct skin contact or mucous membranes with pimples or scabs. In general, healing most often occurs within three weeks.
In the event of contact with a person infected with the virus, the ARS recommends the following recommendations:
- self-isolate, avoid sex, and contact your doctor
- regularly check your skin condition (including genital area) and be reactive in case of symptoms, especially if you belong to a so-called risk group (multiple sexual partners).
As of July 28, the date of the last point made by Santé Publique France, the country had 1,955 confirmed casesincluding 814 in Île-de-France.
