A state of emergency has been declared in Ukraine for 30 days

A state of emergency has been declared in Ukraine for 30 days, Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, said on Wednesday.

The declaration of a state of emergency could mean that the Ukrainians will be ordered to stay at home or that a curfew will be introduced.

The situation in Ukraine has worsened following Monday’s decision by Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence of the so-called “People’s Republics” of Donetsk and Lugansk. On Tuesday, the Council of the Russian Federation, at Putin’s request, authorized him to bring troops into the occupied territories in eastern Ukraine for eight years.
