A route through some of the most interesting inns in Galicia

Among the many ways to stay when traveling or tourism are hotels, rental apartments, the new Airbnb and, finally, the old inns. These are characterized by their privileged location, excellent gastronomy and a historic building, such as castles or manor houses from past centuries.

In all the provinces of Galicia there are historic buildings and enclaves, both for having been a military fortress, a manor of a gentrified family or a castle from hundreds of years ago. In total, in the Galician community there are twelve inns —it is the third after Andalusia and Castilla y León—which are registered in the Paradores Network created in 1928 when the first inn in Spain was opened, in the Sierra de Gredos (Ávila).

the province of Pontevedra has four (Baiona, Cambados, Pontevedra and Tui), being the one with the most. On A Coruña a total of three (Ferrol, Santiago de Compostela and Muxía), as in Lugo (Monforte de Lemos, Ribadeo and Vilalba). Where there is less is in Ourense, with only a couple of them (Ribas de Sil and Verín). In turn, Paradores makes a distinction between those who are buildings with history, those that are in the city and in nature: in Galicia there are five, four and three, respectively. We start the route of the Galician inns from the south to the north.

Parador de Tui

A few steps from the neighboring country and next to the Miño River there is Tui, a city with a lot of history. In the center is a traditional Galician country house, now the parador, in a mountainous and river setting. It was inaugurated more than five decades ago.

It is very close to Mount Aloia and you can practice many river sports and activities in nature. A little over half an hour by car is the town of A Guardaa town of seafaring origin with its skyline starring small colored houses.

It has little more than 60 places distributed in 3 junior suites, 14 superior doubles, 14 doubles and 1 accessible. Book a room at the parador de Tui sale between 150 and 170 euros per nightapproximately in high season.

Baiona Parador

In front of the sea is the Parador de Baiona, in the middle of a walled fortress. In the first place there was a castle, that of Monterreal, but in the 19th century there was already the Elduayen palace. that was where the parador was inaugurated, precisely in the year 1966.

It has multiple facilities for the enjoyment of guests, regal rooms and, above all, elegant, with a majestic staircase built in stone located in the hall. What’s more, it has a pool and is next to several beaches. As we have been saying, it is surrounded by a wall that can also be visited.

The price is around 150 and 200 eurosalthough if you are lucky and take an offer you can have a room for less than 100. On the other hand, It has four stars and more than 240 placesdistributed in 5 suites, 12 junior suites, 52 superior doubles, 51 doubles and 2 accessible.

Cambados Parador

In the Salnés region is the old Pazo de Bazán, enabled as a parador in 1966. If what you want is to get to know the Rías Baixas, specifically the Arousa estuary, it is the best place to stay and get to know the capital of Albariño.

The size of Cambados is not very large, which makes it possible to walk from end to end on foot. Is the famous Fefiñáns Square, formed by the homonymous country house and the church of San Bieito. On the other hand, there is the Wine Museum for lovers of wine tourism.

116 people can be accommodated in this parador: 1 in a junior suite, 5 in a superior double, 45 in a double, 5 in a basic double and 2 in an accessible room. Regarding the price, the night costs around 120 and 160 euros.

Parador of Santiago de Compostela

In the middle of the Plaza del Obradoironext to the very Cathedral of Santiago, is the Hostal dos Reis Católicos, the only hostel in the capital of Galicia. This is one of the most luxurious and beautiful in the Parador network, where history, art and tradition are mixed.

It has a total of 262 seats distributed in 2 suites, 4 junior suites, 10 superior doubles, 12 singles, 107 doubles and 2 accessible. Prices are high and around 300 euros per night for a standard room.

Ferrol Parador

At center of this seafaring, naval and military city there is a stately mansion that acts as a hostel. The setting is idyllic and, above all, maritime. The hotel is decorated with typical products of the sea such as world maps or navigation instruments.

Being located in the same Ferrol neighborhood of Magdalena, has all the tourist sites of the town at hand: both the San Roque fountain, the San Xiao church and the Jofre Theater. In addition, just 20 minutes by car is the military fortress of the Ferrol estuary, the San Felipe Castlelocated in the municipality of Mugardos.

This inn is more welcoming and smaller in size, it has only 71 seats: 2 junior suites, 1 double superior, 5 singles, 29 doubles and 1 accessible. In economic issues, it is of a lower price; the reservation costs approximately between 70 and 90 euros per night.

Ribadeo Parador

Finally, in the province of Lugo, bordering to the north with the Asturian community, there is this house. Right at the mouth of the Eo River, on the estuary, it allows you to contemplate unique views. The hotel is in a maritime style and very well cared for. It was inaugurated at the end of the 50being the second oldest in all of Galicia.

In this locality of Lugo it is essential to visit the Catedrais Beach, only ten kilometers from the parador. It is considered one of the most spectacular on the planet and was declared a Natural Monument.

The Ribadeo inn is smaller than the others: has less than 100 seats divided into 1 suite, 34 superior doubles, 1 single, 10 doubles and 1 accessible. Thus, it is also cheaper, since the reservation for one night is around 100 and 125 eurosso so.

Parador de Santo Estevo

in full Ribeira Sacra (Ourense) is this monastery, considered a Historic-Artistic Monument in the 20’s, built between the 6th and 7th centuries. The Santo Estevo parador has three cloisters of different architectural and artistic styles: one Romanesque, one Gothic and one Renaissance.

It has wonderful views, both of the mountain landscape and of the incredible Sil Canyons. In addition, its haute cuisine restaurant is in an old stable. Definitely, is one of the best known of the entire Galician community.

All in all, the Santo Estevo parador has just over 150 seats divided into 1 junior suite room, 11 superior double rooms, 1 single room, 62 double rooms and 2 accessible rooms. The reserve price is around 200 euros per night, more or less.
