The startup Oxaz, creator of the removable semi-rigid Overcap hood, received two awards at the Lépine International Competition in Paris, organized at the end of October: the Gold medal and that of the Ministry of the Armed Forces. This distinction is timely since the startup has successfully launched a crowdfunding campaign on the international platform Indiegogo, allowing it to open a first online store during the month of November. “Then the sale will follow through marketplaces and specialized physical stores”, indicates Pierre Lagandré, founder of Oxaz.

Overcap is the first technical hood for outdoor activities, suitable for all weather conditions. “Frustrated at not being able to stay outside longer in bad weather conditions, I created this removable, waterproof, anti-UV, removable and repairable hood. It’s more for comfort than for sporting performance, ”explains Pierre Lagandré. Attached to the shoulder straps of any type of backpack, the hood withstands winds of 80 km / h, rain and sun.

Several accessories have been developed to complete Overcap such as a rain cape to completely protect the backpack, a mosquito net to protect against biting insects and a harness to carry Overcap without a backpack.

Incubated at the Open Tourisme Lab in Nîmes

“These two awards validate development prospects in the outdoor markets such as hiking, fishing, nature photography and ornithology, which are growing rapidly,” explains Pierre Lagandré. A distinction that also opens up prospects in several professional sectors including outdoor activities, particularly in tourism and events.

The startup is part of the 2021 promotion of the Open Tourism Lab (OTL), an open innovation platform dedicated to tourism, located in Nîmes, allowing it to support the various stages of market access and sources of funding. Already in 2017, with this same project, this Arts & Crafts engineer and designer won a prize in the “project leader” category at the Sportup Summit, an innovation competition dedicated to sport and tourism organized by the Occitanie Region. and its economic development agency, Ad’Occ.

Created in June 2018, the company Oxaz, specializing in the creation of innovative products for outdoor activities, is supported by Via Innova, Ad’Occ Sport, the Open Tourisme Lab accelerator (Occitanie Region, Nîmes Métropole and private companies) and is member of Outdoor Sports Valley (Annecy).
