A record of 100,000, South Korea even relaxes Covid regulations, why?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – South Korea (South Korea) relaxes Covid-19 rules. This relates to the curfew that governs business in the country.

The government allows cafes and restaurants to open until 22.00 WIB. Whereas previously business people had to close at 21.00.

This move comes amid strong reactions from small traders and entrepreneurs. They complain that the Covid-19 regulations have brought down sales.

“Considering the deepening of the people’s livelihood and economic difficulties, we have concluded that a minimum adjustment is inevitable,” Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said, quoted by Reuters. AFPFriday (18/2/2022).

The easing will begin Saturday (19/2/2022). In the future, the government will also issue a stimulus to help small businesses, amounting to 14 trillion won.

Previously, South Korea also changed the concept of its Covid-19 regulations, namely “tracking, testing, and treatment”. This is due to the increase in cases.

Instead of conducting mass tracking and testing, South Korea asked patients with mild symptoms to self-isolate at home. It is hoped that this will mobilize health workers and hospitals into serious cases.

Even though the curfew was relaxed, a number of tightenings were still in place. Such as limiting private gatherings to a maximum of six people, seven-day quarantine of international arrivals and mandatory masks in public spaces, including vaccine passports for business meetings.

Today, the Korea Agency for Disease Control and Prevention (KDCA) recorded a new infection record breaking through 109,831 with 45 deaths. This is history since the pandemic hit South Korea in 2020.

quote Reuters, some experts warn cases will still increase two to three times. But so far serious cases can be handled and the death rate remains low.

South Korea noted that more than 58% of the 52 million population had been injected with the vaccine. As many as 85.2% of them, have been fully vaccinated. KDCA noted that a total of 1.7 million more people have been infected with 7,283 deaths since the pandemic spread in 2020.
