FNV vice-chairman Kitty Jong calls the workload of healthcare staff “really way too high.” According to the results, half of health care workers feel emotionally and physically exhausted. Some are even considering working less or quitting less.
In addition, health care workers feel unappreciated and there is “double feeling” about the national applause campaign. “Nowadays, many healthcare workers experience not so much applause, but rather a raised middle finger, especially from politics,” says Jong.
According to Jong, the bonus of 1000 euros is “a start for many healthcare workers, but more is needed.” According to the care staff, the bonus should have been almost twice as high: 1,850 euros. Almost three quarters of the staff believe that the bonus only makes sense if there is also a substantial structural wage increase. The health care workers believe that, on average, they are entitled to a 7.6 percent salary increase.
More than 6,600 employees from hospitals, care institutions and home care institutions participated in the study.
On Saturday evening (8:35 pm on NPO 2), Hollandse Zaken will show how healthcare staff look back on the past few months.
