A quarter less advertising revenue for TV channels in the first six months | NOW

TV channels had 23 percent less advertising revenue in the first six months of this year, according to figures published by TV marketing organization Screenforce on Tuesday.

Total proceeds amounted to 307 million euros, 91 million less than in the same period last year. The cause of the sharp decline is the outbreak of COVID-19.

As a result, fewer advertisements were sold and, moreover, for a lower average rate. This was partly due to the cabinet’s lockdown measures, which brought some branches of industry to a complete or partial standstill.

Screenforce expects the second half of the year to be less dramatic, resulting in a decrease of 12 to 15 percent over the whole of 2020. The organization adds that it depends on how the pandemic develops and what measures the government takes in this regard.

In the first six months, the Dutch watched an average of 206 minutes of TV. That was 194 minutes in the same period last year. The increase is mainly due to the increased popularity of video platforms such as Netflix and Videoland.
