a private internet grocery store because of the OVH fire in Alsace

On March 9, a major fire destroyed computer servers hosted by the OVH company. Result, thousands of blocked websites and among them that of La Palanche, a small grocery store in Hérault.

Since March 9, business has been slowing down for the La Palanche zero-waste grocery store. Its website is completely paralyzed, a blow for this young company which only operates via the internet. “Since Wednesday morning, we no longer have access to our website”, Deplores Julie Boucher, one of the co-founders of La Palanche. “This is very problematic given that we are a zero waste drive and that all of the orders that our customers place are done over the internet.

A fire with national repercussions

In question, the major fire which devastated part of the building of OVH, a server host. Since then, thousands of websites have been out of service in the country, like the Hérault site La Palanche.

OVH has started to restore power to some of its sections, but repairs will take a long time, one area having been completely destroyed by fire. In the meantime, the small business opened in September in Saint-Gély-du-Fesc adapts and offers a new formula.

Cooking crates

To limit the loss of turnover and perishable foodstuffs, La Palanche now offers crates filled with five meals. Customers can book them by phone, they are accompanied by a sheet offering 5 recipes for cooking the products sold. The initiative is appealing, like Mathieu Lemius: “it allows us to do something else and get away from what we are used to preparing so it’s a good idea”.

A new operation which nevertheless generates considerable additional work and does not compensate for the financial losses. La Palanche therefore hopes to find its website very quickly. OVH plans to return some of its sites to normal from March 22, but much data will be unrecoverable.
