The British presenter Jonnie Irwin, 49, best known from the program “A place in the sun”, was diagnosed in 2020 with incurable cancer. The disease had spread to the brain.

Two years later, he made the diagnosis public. He was then informed that he has between six months and two years left to live.

– I don’t know how long I have left, but I’m trying to be positive. I say that I am living with cancer, not that I am dying of cancer, he then said in an interview with Hello.

The success in Sweden

In addition to “A place in the sun”, he has also been the host of several BBC programmes, including “To Buy or Not to Buy” and “A place in the country”.

“A place in the sun” he started as a presenter back in 2004 – in total he has appeared in over 200 episodes. The program has also been a great success outside the UK, including in Sweden.

After the cancer diagnosis, he was kicked from the program. The channel’s explanation then was that it was not possible to insure Irwin during the recordings.

As recently as last week, Irwin posted on social media that he appeared to be doing well. But on Friday the news came that he had passed away.

Irwin leaves behind his wife Jessica and their three sons.
