The Vaivari station building could no longer be used functionally for the needs of railway passengers, therefore, within the framework of the station modernization, this historic station building was preserved as a cultural and historical architectural monument and relocated from the railway, and is now located on Jūrmala Skautu Street.

Thus, buildings, which are often also cultural and historical monuments, are properly managed, while the residents of the neighborhood get new jobs, a center of public life, a cultural space or a tourist attraction. Leasehold or ownership can be acquired by individuals, businesses and local authorities alike.
For example, in the historic station building of Airīte there is currently a private guest house and a museum. The former Ērgļi railway station building is also being made an attractive destination for local and foreign tourists, offering various types of educational and entertaining activities. In turn, the building of Ķeipene station is currently called the Cinema Station – it has become a cultural space – the pet of the author of the idea of the film forum “Arsenāls” Augustus Sukuta.
In order to organize public life, attract tourists and for other purposes, local governments also take care of the station buildings in their territory. An art gallery has been set up at Dubulti station in cooperation with Jūrmala City Council, and Gulbene municipality has set up an educational interactive center “Railway and Steam” in the station building. The local government has set up a community center in the Smārde station building, and various cultural activities are also organized in the Kangaru station building. The local government takes care of the premises of Cēsis station, although the building is the property of SJSC Latvijas dzelzceļš.
