A Phil Collins song returns to the charts for a viral video

Collins

The song of Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight” returned to the charts 40 years after its release, thanks to a video of American twins whose reaction to the 1981 hit went viral.

Twins Tim and Fred Williams posted a video on YouTube in July in which they listened to the British singer’s debut as a solo artist.

In the pictures, the brothers appear to be enjoying the music, shaking their heads, when they suddenly flop backwards in their chairs, incredulous, as the drums play in the middle of the song.

“This is unique,” says one of them in the video after being blown away by the drums. “I’ve never seen anyone drop the beat at the end of a song.”

The video on the twins’ channel on the platform, “TwinsthenewTrend,” has accumulated more than five million views.

As of Friday, “In the Air Tonight” ranked second on the US iTunes charts, behind Darius Rucker’s “Beer and Sunshine,” according to itopchart.com.

Success launched Collins’ solo career in 1981, after he left British rock group Genesis as frontman and drummer.

The 69-year-old Collins has sold more than 100 million albums during his solo career and 150 million with Genesis.
