A number of PTNs Withdraw fees before the announcement of SBMPTN, the Ombudsman asks Nadiem to give sanctions

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.comOmbudsman The Republic of Indonesia asked the Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim to impose sanctions on this College state (PTN) which announced the results of the independent selection preceded the results of the Joint Selection College State ( SBMPTN).

RI Ombudsman member Ahmad Suaedy said that the announcement of the results of the self-selection that preceded the SBMPTN results resulted in tuition payments being paid in advance and could not be returned.

“The Ombudsman provides advice to the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia to evaluate and impose strict sanctions on PTNs who take advantage of the PTN entry selection process like this,” said Suaedy in a press release, Friday (14/8/2020).

Suaedy said, the Ombudsman received complaints from a number of parents who objected if the tuition fees that had been paid in the PTN self-selection results could not be returned when prospective new students passed the SBMPTN route.

This is different from previous years, where the results of the independent selection were only announced after the announcement of the SBMPTN results so that payments were made after the SBMPTN results came out.

“With this they do not lose the down payment that has been paid for the independent program, while now the money is gone. The amount could be tens and hundreds of millions,” said Suaedy.

Therefore, the Indonesian Ombudsman asked a number of state universities such as the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, the Bandung Institute of Technology and several other state universities to cancel the payment program.

“Not taking the opportunity during the Covid-19 pandemic to exploit the people,” said Suaedy.

The Ombudsman also suggested that the tuition fee that has been paid for the results of the self-selection can be returned by the PTN if prospective new students do not continue their studies at PTN with the independent / international selection path and choose the SBMPTN results.
