The railway station in Česká Třebová is the largest in the country in terms of area. It measures over ten kilometers. The railroad workers will call him nothing but a “rancher.” Each shift assembles up to fifteen freight trains in it, which then depart to all parts of the world.
Previously, however, there were three times more of them, and the station therefore found itself on the list of unpromising marshalling yards. “That huge, gigantic capacity is simply no longer used,” explains Michal Kolovratník (YES), a member of SŽ’s board of directors.
At least a hundred people could lose their place in Česká Třebová. “Some local families have worked or have been working on the railway, for example, for three to four generations,” says the railway historian Pavel Stejskal.
