A new NMPD brigade point has been opened in Riga

All new brigade points are staffed by teams that go to calls in pairs. In the cities, they are two medics who also drive the ambulance themselves. But in the regions – a medic and the driver of an emergency vehicle, acting according to the first responder principle. Namely, this team arrives first at the place of call, as it is the closest to the scene, and immediately starts providing assistance to the patient, but in case of need, another team goes to help them in critical situations.

NMPD reminds – to get emergency help, you should call the emergency number 113, and not go to the brigade point. Medical teams rush from one call to another and are not always on the spot at their point, moreover, if necessary, if the operational situation requires it, the team can be redeployed to other places as well. In such cases, the NMPD dispatch center immediately sends another nearest, free brigade to the call. In total, up to 196 medical teams are on duty at the NMPD every day, located in 109 places throughout Latvia, fulfilling an average of 900 calls per day. On the other hand, in the Riga region, there are 62 brigades, located in 26 points, and they make an average of 450 calls.

The task of the EMS is to provide assistance in situations where human health and life are at risk and minutes are decisive. The medical team should be called if a person is unconscious, if there is life-threatening bleeding, shortness of breath, severe trauma (traffic accident, electric shock, fire, etc.), there is sudden chest pain that may indicate a heart attack, there is sudden weakness on one side , which may indicate a stroke, or in any other situation where life is in danger and help needs to be provided immediately and urgently.
