Ohio U.S. Hyperion Motors Releases New Teaser for New XP-1 Hypercar with hydrogen power plant, the development of which started in 2015. Engineers claim that the car will use the technology of leading space agencies, adapted for road cars.

Presumably, Hyperion XP-1 will receive a power plant on fuel cells, where energy is generated as a result of a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, and several electric engines will act as a power unit.

At the moment, several leading automotive companies are developing technologies for hydrogen power plants. For example, in March, BMW introduced new zero emission system i Hydrogen NEXT. Testing of the installation, developed jointly with Toyota, will begin in 2022 on the X5 crossover.

The BMW i Hydrogen NEXT includes a fifth-generation eDrive electric power unit with a backup battery, a fuel cell and a voltage converter. Hydrogen is contained in two tanks under a pressure of 700 bar, where up to 6 kg of gas can be pumped. A full tank charge takes from three to four minutes.

The peak power of the power unit was 275 kW, which is equivalent to 374 horsepower. The electrochemical generator in the fuel cell uses a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen as fuel, and the only discharge is water vapor.
