Gaz-System already has a set of decisions allowing it to start the construction of the Racibórz-Oświęcim gas pipeline. The investment will enable e.g. connection to the network of a new gas unit planned by PGE in Rybnik, which will be one of the largest installations of this type in Poland.

Gaz-System, i.e. the operator of the gas transmission system, specified that it already has the last permit for the construction of an 8-kilometre section. They were issued by the voivode of Lesser Poland. Meaning that

nothing stands in the way of the construction of the Racibórz-Oświęcim gas pipeline, which is 116 km long.

The gas pipeline will connect the largest gas-fired power plant

The installation under construction will be connected to the Oświęcim-Tworzeń gas pipeline currently under construction and the planned gas pipeline connecting Kędzierzyn-Koźle with Racibórz. Construction is expected to be completed by 2026.

This date is important because it is planned for this year

completion of the construction of a gas and steam unit in Rybnik.

As we have already written in money.pl, the 882 MW unit will be the largest installation of this type in Poland and one of the largest in Europe. Therefore, in three years time, the unit under construction will be connected to the transmission network.

A new gas-steam unit with a capacity

882 MW is to replace four decommissioned coal units with a total capacity of 900 MW in the existing Rybnik Power Plant.

According to PGE, the new power plant will meet stringent environmental standards.

Details of the new pipeline

The Racibórz-Oświęcim gas pipeline project has been divided into four sections. Three of them are located in the Śląskie Voivodeship and one in the Małopolskie Voivodeship. The division took place for the purpose of obtaining building permits.

Gaz-System ensures that the new gas pipeline will increase the capacity of the transmission network in the Śląskie and Małopolskie voivodeships. In addition, together with the already functioning connections of the North-South Corridor, it will create a ring gas transmission system, which is to increase the energy security of the region.

Gaz-System, a 100% state-owned gas transmission system operator, is responsible for the transmission of natural gas. It also manages the most important gas pipelines in Poland and owns the LNG terminal in Świnoujście.
